General Information

What is URSA?

URSA is UCA’s Web Portal that can be personalized to fit the needs of each individual in the UCA community.

What does the name "URSA" mean and how was it chosen?

A student contest was held in 2006 to name the portal. "URSA" was chosen because it is a form of the Latin word for bear, "ursus," and UCA’s mascot is the bear. Additionally, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor are constellations based on Greek mythology. The letters, U R S A, signify "University Resource for Students and Administration."

Will URSA replace the current UCA Website?

Only for issues that are specific to UCA’s students, faculty, and staff. The current website, www.uca.edu, will be UCA’s public face on the Internet.

How do I get into URSA?

Use your current UCA Login and password - the same used to check UCA email or login to campus computers. Contact the Information Technology Helpdesk in BBA 106 if you need help.

Do I have to use URSA?

Not yet, but eventually URSA will be the only link to most of your UCA on-line needs.

Will each student have their own access?

Yes. Each student, faculty member, and staff member will have customizable access.

What can I use it for?

Registration, forms, announcements, e-mail, web access, classes, groups, etc.

How can I learn to use URSA?

It is so intuitive, you may already know. A "help" area is readily available within the site, however.

Does the general public have access to URSA?

No. Only members of the UCA community have access.

Will UCA graduates have access to URSA?

Not at this time.

Technical Information

Why am I automatically logged out within 5-10 seconds?

The most likely cause is corrupted cookies in your internet browser. URSA makes extensive use of cookies to control your session. Please clear your browser's cookies and try logging in again.

To clear cookies in Internet Explorer 7.0:

  • Click the Tools menu and select Delete Browsing History...
  • In the Delete Browsing History window, click the "Delete cookies..." button
  • Click "Yes" in the Delete Cookies confirm box
  • Click "Close" in the Delete Browsing History window to return

Another possible cause could be browser toolbars, such as Yahoo! Toolbar and Google Toolbar. Please try disabling or uninstalling browser toolbars while using URSA.

Why do I receive "Page cannot be displayed" when trying to view sections of the Self-Service tab?

The most likely cause of this error is that port 4459 is being blocked on your computer. This can be the result of personal firewall software (such as Norton Internet Security) or your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

If you have a personal firewall installed, simply disable or otherwise configure the application to allow traffic on port 4459.

If you do not have firewall software installed, check with your ISP and make sure they are not blocking port 4459.

If you are not sure if you have any firewall software installed and cannot confirm with your ISP, contact the IT Help Desk at 501.450.3107 for additional assistance.
